Sunnybank is Queensland’s premier Rugby club. Over 1,000 players compete under the Dragon brand at the best training and playing facilities in Queensland.
In only 23 seasons in the Queensland Premier competition the club has developed a number of Wallabies; boasts a large number of Super 15 players for the Queensland Reds and Melbourne Rebels. The club’s major focus is on development of players from its junior clubs and local schools. It is the only club in Queensland that employs full time development staff and provides regular professional support to junior clubs and schools. The club is equally proud of its coaches, many of whom coach currently at Australian and Queensland level. All coaches at Sunnybank are ARU accredited and are provided with the latest resources.
Sunnybank Rugby is located at the junction of the Pacific Motorway, the Gateway Arterial and the western connecting roads to Ipswich.
It is serviced by both rail and the South-East Busway.
The club has an exclusive relationship with Griffith University which is located at nearby Nathan and Mt Gravatt Campuses.
The club first fielded Junior teams in the QJRU competition in 1969 although there had been some teams playing from Sunnybank SHS since 1967. The Senior Club first fielded teams in the sub-district competition in 1978 and was admitted to the Premier competition in 1989.
2009 saw the club celebrate 40 years of providing Junior Rugby and 20 years of competing in the QRU Premier competition.
