Sunnybank is the only Premier Club in Australia with comprehensive 7s’ program. This includes participation in the elite international and Australian domestic competitions as well as the provision of development programs for males and females in local school and community competitions. Partnering with Sunnybank Rugby will provide a strong brand association through our elite team with events in a number of recognised tourism destinations in Australia, Asia and the Pacific.

The current programs have been successfully conducted and funded since 2009 and the partnership will ensure that they continue to grow at a rate commensurate with the growth in profile of 7s Rugby. Our programs have been recognised and supported by the Australian Rugby Union, most notably through the selection of 10 of our amateur players in the national squad preparing for upcoming IRB (20% of the entire squad).

Sunnybank are the current Plate Champions from Singapore and were the highest placed Australian club team at most other tournaments. The team competed against international teams such as New Zealand, Japan and Australia, enjoying victories over professional teams such as the NSW Waratahs. Sunnybank matches at the Singapore and Darwin 7s have been commercially televised through Star TV, Setanta and ABC TV. Our program has attracted national players from the USA and Canada to be part of the program.
