Sunnybank Rugby is proud to announce that a true Dragon has been LOCKED IN as our Premier Men’s Head Coach for 2026 – Rex Tapuai.
Rex’s story is one that runs deep with Sunnybank. From 2011 through to 2023, he wore the Green, White, and Black with pride, amassing an incredible 135 Premier Grade caps. Week after week, Rex proved what it truly means to be a Dragon – resilience, passion and heart. His legacy as a player is firmly locked in as one of the club’s most respected.
But his journey didn’t stop there. Over the past two seasons, Rex has been a driving force in our Colts program, helping shape and guide the next generation of Dragons. His influence on and off the field has already left a mark, and his commitment to building pathways for our players is another piece of his Sunnybank story now locked in.
Now, he steps into his biggest role yet – leading our Premier Men’s program into 2026 and beyond. With a clear vision, proven leadership, and a deep love for the jersey, Rex is ready to bring a new edge to the team. His appointment signals an exciting new chapter for Sunnybank Rugby – one where the foundations of our past are combined with fresh ideas and bold ambition.
